Forest Bathing

Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing. This is a Japanese practice that I had the opportunity to partake in. This is the process of walking or sitting in the forest and enjoying the peace, relaxation, and not having to think about nothing at all. Forest bathing possibly might be the next yoga.

I really enjoyed the quite peacefulness of forest bathing. It was a memorable experience and I cannot remember the last time I felt that relaxed. A lot of my stress was taken away. All though this was a quick ten minute forest bathing session I will relish the moment and I cannot wait to do it again.

I saw many cool things on my journey. I was lying down on the forest floor so above me I saw a massive green canopy of leaves above me with long skinny branches attached to each branch. There were hundreds of leaves on the ground from Autumn. I saw a carpenter bee flying around who did not seem to know what he was doing. There was not a lot of sound on this adventure. However, I heard the chirping of two birds. They appeared to be having a conversation among themselves. I also heard the loud buzzing of the carpenter bee nearby. I felt the cold moist dirt on my back and warm sunlight on my face. I felt a pine cone while forest bathing. The feeling was similar to bark except it was pointy and sharp I felt inside of the pine cone and it was similar to wood.

Reflection
Through out forest bathing I saw different aspects of the ecosystem consisting of various plants and animals. This connects to what I have learned about the ecosystem and environment in my middle school science classes. I have had many units in class learning about the ecosystem and all of organisms that are living there. I used ATL skills in this entry. I used self management in the form of reflection because when I was forest bathing I sat there in the quite thinking and reflecting about whatever came to mind and I also used research in the form of information literacy because I had to gain knowledge and research forest bathing to understand what I was about to do.
